The Richmond Community Pool officially opened in June of 1968. A tragic accident led to the community taking action and raising funds to help build this community asset. Over the last 50 years, the Richmond Pool has provided a safe place to teach the children of our community to swim.
A Richmond Community Swimming Pool Authority was established to raise funds to build the pool. According to the Richmond Review, the majority of the pool was built during the summer of 1967, and was dedicated at the Richmond Area Good Old Days Festival in September. Because the bathhouse and plumbing were not completed until the spring of 1968, the official opening of the pool was June of 1968.
Throughout the summer of 2018, the Richmond Recreation Department will be honoring this 50th year celebration through various events. We are asking that any and all happy and fun memories of the Community Pool be shared with us through an email, by mail, or by stopping in at the Richmond Community Center. We welcome pictures and written memories; these items will be shared on memory boards and in a book that will be displayed at the Community Center.
Items can be mailed to: City of Richmond Recreation Department, PO Box 457, Richmond MI 48062
