Santa Parade Cancelled

The City of Richmond regretfully announces that the Santa Parade is cancelled this year.  The recent announcements and guidance released by the Governor and Department of Health and Human Services have made it necessary for us to reconsider the feasibility of holding the parade.  As mentioned in the DHHS Emergency Order “To protect vulnerable individuals, ensure the health care system can provide care for all health issues, and prevent spread in schools during the influenza season, we must reduce the spread of COVID-19.  This necessitates use of more forceful mitigation techniques to reduce the spread of the virus.” They specifically request organizers and venues must ensure that persons not part of the same household maintain 6 feet of distance from one another to the extent possible.  In order to not only protect the community in attendance, but also those volunteers, employees and parade participants that make the parade possible, we feel it is necessary to cancel the Santa Parade this year.

The DHHS guidelines still allow for most commercial businesses to remain open.  We encourage the community to follow the guidelines and continue to shop local.  The City will still be running the “Christmas Cash” program that provides for a chance to win a cash prize by shopping at participating local businesses.  More information on the Christmas Cash program and those participating businesses will be coming out next week.
