The Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) is a division of the Planning & Economic Development Department. The Planning & Economic Development Director is the BZA Administrator.

Notices of Board public hearings are displayed as classified legal advertisements in The North Macomb Voice newspaper prior to the public hearing date in accordance with applicable law.
BZA Responsibilities
Richmond's Board of Zoning Appeals is a quasi-judicial body established by Article 24 of the City of Richmond Zoning Ordinance pursuant to the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act, Public Act 110 of 2006, as amended. The responsibilities of the Board of Zoning Appeals include:
Hearing and deciding on appeals of administrative zoning decisions
Authorizing variances from the strict application of the Zoning Ordinance under certain conditions
Granting exceptions and special approvals in accordance with the provisions and conditions of the Zoning Ordinance
Issue interpretations of the zoning map and Zoning Ordinance
Members
The Board of Zoning Appeals is made up of five members of the community and two alternate members serving three-year terms commencing on January 1. Board members are appointed by the City Council.
