Planning & Economic Development

The Planning and Economic Development Department is a division of the Office of the City Manager and is administered by the city's full-time Planning and Economic Development Director Troy S Jeschke.

Direction & Administration

The Planning and Economic Development director is appointed by, and serves at the pleasure of, the city manager. The Planning & Economic Development Director is responsible for organizing and directing the development and administration of programs to guide current and future utilization of city land, physical facilities, and socioeconomic resources.

The Planning & Economic Development Director provides administrative support to the city's Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Economic Development Corporation, City Council, and city administration.

Meetings & Hearings

Below are the meeting dates of the Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals meetings.  All applications are required to be submitted to the Planning & Economic Development Department by 4:00 pm on the deadline date.

Pre-Application Meetings

A pre-application meeting with City staff is required prior to submitting any development application. At this meeting, staff from Planning, Public Works, Fire, and Building can provide a preliminary review of a site plan, explain zoning requirements, and discuss project timelines. Pre-application meetings often address circumstances that would otherwise result in an application being postponed or denied. Depending on the project scope and timing, multiple pre-application meetings may be necessary. Please call (586) 727-7571 or email to schedule an appointment.

Conceptual Site Plan Reviews

The Planning & Economic Development Department offers conceptual site plan reviews to applicants that would like to know whether their proposed use could be allowed.  Once a conceptual site plan has been approved a more formal site development plan would be requried for submittal.
